About the name

Velea began as a private word. It comes from Khmer, the language spoken across Cambodia, where it means time, or the moment. Not the tick of a clock. The kind of moment you notice while you are in it, and then again, decades later, when you find yourself missing it.

A painting is one way of holding a moment. A word turned out to be another. The two go together well enough that we borrowed the word to name what the paintings do.
